Laughter Workshop

Laughter Workshop

using the power of games to connect, and let the laughter flow

WHAT’S THE INTENTION?

To incorporate more laughter, mirth, giggles, joy, goof and humour into our everyday lives.

WHY ARE WE DOING THAT?

The average four-year-old laughs 300 times a day. The average 40-year-old? Only four.  We can change that.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

FOR THE INDIVIDUAL: get to a calm place

Laughter has been shown to

  • reduce levels of stress hormones (cortisol and adrenalin)
  • increase mood-enhancing endorphins and neurotransmitters such as dopamine
  • increase infection-fighting antibodies
  • improve blood flow to the heart

Through deep breathing, laughing stimulates the vagus nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), countering the activation of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight), all resulting in greater relaxation and heightened mood.

It’s also fun and it makes you happy.

FOR THE SOCIAL GROUP: get to a place of connection

Playing games in groups connects and bonds. Just as an individual needs break time to re-energise, so groups benefit from being brought together without the pressure of work. It’s down-time for teams.

WHO’S IT FOR?

Anyone willing to reconnect with their inner child.

Mixed age groups work really well, though are not essential.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Through games, games and more great group games:

  • Concentration games
  • Chasing games & chair-based games
  • Word and number games
  • Impulse and circle games
  • Drama and improv activities

There might also be some free laughter meditation, towards the end of the session.

Most importantly, it’s about the invitation to say yes to laughter – games just make that a bit easier.
